Halfway Home, A Bicycle Podcast. With Sam Knight, at Knotty Green.

How Do All,
I had the greatest of pleasures to meet up with Sam Knight, whom I had never actually met in person before now, for a brew, cake, and a chat.

The venue was in Knotty Green of all places, which is about half way between our homes.
This was recorded for his Halfway Home, A Bicycle Podcast.

You can listen to all of his episodes here:

This is basically two friends cycling to the midpoint between them, meeting up and generally talking about bikes and other random stuff, whilst enjoying the outdoors and drinking tea, Fantastic!

I then rode home via Windsor and had another brew halfway home, by the Windsor water pump.

Radius Peer Gynt, LWB recumbent SOLD!

How Do All ;-)

£950.00 or very nearest offer!

Here I have for sale my Radius, Spezialrader, Peer Gynt.

The reason for selling is: I now commute almost exclusively on my Ordinary Bicycle (Penny Farthing) for me being eye level with truck drivers along the busy dual carriageway I now have to ride along just feels a tad safer, no; really, Penny Farthings as super safe! 😂

This long wheel base recumbent, built by Radius in 1993 in Münster, Western Germany. With rear suspension and a suspended seat, it was at the time considered the Rolls Royce of touring recumbent bicycles, and it is still for me one of the most comfortable and easy to ride recumbent bicycles to ride.

I have used the bike for the past seven years for commuting, Shopping and day rides, but due to a work place move last year, I now prefer to ride my Penny Farthings to work almost exclusively.

This bike is fully and professionally serviced, set up and adjusted and is ready to ride today! with no further tinkering or twiddling needed, unless you want to of course!
The tyres are nearly new.
The chain drive is in good order. the cassette, middle ring and chains were changed last year.
The brake blocks are brand new, and a second Genuine Magura set are also included.
the paint and decals are all original, wear, scratches spots of surface rust etc will be present but considering the age of the machine it is in great condition, always stored indoors and cleaned after every days use.

The Details:
Radius Spezialrader, Peer Gynt.
Year of manufacture 1993, Colour Satin Black.
The Frame and fork are Mannesmann Chromolly

My own hand built wheel set, I built a new set of wheels as the rear was originally a 7 speed freehub and I changed this to 9/10 speed freehub.
The original front wheel was an obscure 440 x 28c  (500 x 28a) size so the 451 x 28c was built as overall there is only a 5 mm difference and the 451 size has many tyre choices available.

Rear wheel: Shimano 105 hub, with 9 speed Sram PG 970 cassette, 11 - 32 teeth. Mavic Open Sport Rim. DT Swiss Competition, Double butted spokes. 700 x 35c Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tyre (nearly new), and Schwalbe Tube.

Front wheel: Shimano 105 hub, Sun Rims, CR 18 polished alloy rim. DT Swiss Champion spokes 14g, Radially Laced. 451 x 28c Schwalbe Durano Tyre (New), and Schwalbe Tube.

I am also including the original rear wheel in the sale as it is still a good wheel and someone may wish to revert the machine back to its original 7 speed format.

Magura HS66 tour, hydraulic rim brakes. I include also the original mini service kit, and original documentation (not pictured), these brake are fully bled and with brand new brake blocks, plus genuine Magura spares.

Drive train and gearing:
Cassette is a Sram 11-32 PG-970 9 speed
Chain is a Sram 991, 9 speed chain.
Crankset is a Shimano Deore XT triple 28-36-48 tooth rings. middle ring is a new Spa Cycles 7075 cnc ring. The cranks have been shortened to 140mm, which is a great knee saver!
Bottom Bracket is Shimano
Front derailleur is the original Shimano XT.
Rear derailleur is the original Shimano XT.
Cable outers (housings) are Jagwire LEX-SL prelubed.
Inner cables are Clarks, stainless steel universal cables.
Shimano Dura Ace bar end shifters.
Pedals are Shimano PD-M540 XT double sided SPD's. I will however change these for a set of new flat pedals should you wish.
I removed the original mini idler and replaced this with a dual ider set, Terracyle power and Ice return idlers. as the chain used to slap with the original single idler.

Other Special items:
Pletscher Athlete Alloy Rear Rack with stainless fixings.
SKS frame fit pump behind seat.
SKS mudguards with stainless steel stays and fixings.
Full dynamo light set.
Front is a B + M IQ Tec FLY with standlight, Rear is a Philips lumiring? with Standlight and both have built in reflectors.
Adie rear basket, as I like to be able to just throw a rucksack, shopping or whatever in. you can remove this and use pannier if you so wish.

Somewhere I also have the original kick stand but for the life of me I cannot find it at the moment, I will however try to find it in the mean time and if needs be will write and IOU for the stand and post it on once found.

Spare Tubes, Brake Blocks, mini service kit, original reflectors and front light etc included

This is a gorgeous bike and needs no cleaning, work or improvements, you can ride off into the sunset with no worries at all!
